Hate to nitpick, but would it really be called the Cold War in this timeline? I mean, we call it that because we never really fought directly with the Soviets (and we never traded nukes either, thank goodness). Wouldn't the people of this world call it something else? War World III seems appropriate enough; I just don't see how "Cold War" fits when it starts out quite hot!

It is just a title that stuck because the war started as a cold war and they never changed the name, even when it became a real war. I guess they would call it world war III more often than the cold war but that was still its official title...ironically XD

I know I'm supposed to be dormant, but I was reading the comic and this interests me... If I recall from history class, there was a time when a Russian soldier saw a great number of missiles that seemed to be coming from the states on the monitoring devices. But his intuition told him this was impossible. He made the call to say false alarm and was right. If he'd acted on it, there would have been a third world war. I'm guessing you knew this and this is where another slice of alternate reality pie is eaten?

That's pretty much what he's saying. Instead of distrusting the piece of crap computers (which I now dub Soviet-ware), this reality saw a massive strike... long before they realized the mistake. =P I'm guessing that soldier didn't have a long military career...

Eh, just a nitpick. As a writer, I tend to strive for realism, which can be a headache yet is usually worth it. I guess if I were writing the story, I'd lean more towards using the "World War III" term, but that's up to you. =P I'm just not so sure the war's still "cold" by anyone's measure...

...except maybe the Global Warming guys.

wow somebody actually got that!! I am very impressed XD

That is absolutely right, that is where it came from! The only real difference in the story of SG and the real world is whether or not that russian acted on the information or not XD
