Bula cannibal polishers!

Well, this will be a big one because I have had a considerably monumental last month or so. I'll keep the journal as short as I can, and indeed I don't have any wedding pictures yet so it will be lacking in that department for a bit. Since I was kinda unable to take any pics of the wedding myself, Georgie and I are the only ones who were there who don't have any pics of it yet!

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's start at the beginning, by which I mean Christmas eve. The first part of Jesusfest 2012 was spent at our house, where it was my job this year to cook the Christmas dinner, which I spent a while doing.

Photobucket

In usual tradition, my brother and sister joined us for dinner, Christmas specials, opening presents at the stroke of midnight, and copious drinking.

Photobucket

The next day we had lunch at my mums with her side of the family, and after that, Christmas dinner at my dads house.

Photobucket

Oh and we gave the puppies their usual presents.

The next day of note was New Years eve which we spent at my sisters place because it has a great view of the Tasman bridge where they launch fireworks behind of. We had new years cocktails, rolled around on the floor alot, drew faces on balloons and watched Angry Video game nerd both before and after the event.

Here are me and Britt performing the age honoured New Years 25 Pounder cannon ceremony on our way to the fireworks vantage point.

For New Years eve :iconztarli: and I made special gingerbread stars. Unfortunately, due to me being tired, there was an incident where instead of pouring a few cachous from a bottle into my hand, I instead poured red food dye into my hand by accident. And also all over the table and our clothes. In rememberance, we made a special knife cookie and small man for some reason.

Fast forward to the 8th of January. On this date, the first of :iconztarli:'s interstate family arrived for our wedding; Her dad and his partner Jaquie. That night we went and ate way too much at the diner near our house. And then bought way too much alcohol for the wedding.

The next day :iconztarli:'s mum and two brothers arrived. They were all staying at our house. There were some... slight 'debates' that night which I excused myself mostly from, intently studying a book on cosmological physics while tempers flared around me. In between that I played a few games of Space Hulk with Josh, one of G's brothers.

The next day we had a rehearsal for the wedding. It did set a lot of my nerves right, only to be replaced by new nerves. That night, best man :iconvamore: arrived (who was also staying at our house) and we had a number of drinkies and a rolicking good time. I drank way too much and was pretty seedy until...

...the next day. Wedding eve. It was at this point that I asked Vamore if he had written a best man speech, to which he said 'I guess I'd better do that, huh?' I wasn't worried.

Then on saturday something happened...oh yeah the wedding. As I rambled earlier, I don't have any pics yet, but stay tuned later on for when I edit the journal to include them. It went pretty darn awesomely if I do say so myself. I was a bit worried about how the incredibly diverse groups of people present would handle each other and get along. There were G and my whole (large)  families, including uncles and aunts from out of state, my university friends, also from out of state, :iconvamore:, :iconcarnival:, :iconkraden: from out of state, :iconcassandrajames: and her partner Rowan, some wargaming buddies of mine (some from Launceston and others besides. But they all got along really well and I was so happy that everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Dispite me messing up two very simple words in the wedding ceremony in typical Matt style (at least I didnt faint, which was a bonus) the whole thing was very natural and quirky and very 'us' which I think is a very important thing in a wedding. :iconvamore:'s speech which he had scribbled in his sketchbook scant hours before the wedding, was fabsolutely tabulous. An absolute hit, blew it out of the park. Touch down, home run and bingo. Everyone loved it. :iconztarli:'s dad and :iconkraden: both gave touching vocal additions and even my softly spoken sister :iconmoonlitsu: stopped the presses with an impromptu speech that I was very moved by. I don't remember what I said in reply to all that at the wedding but it was probably nonsensical garbage. It all went far too fast and before we knew it, G and I were being whisked away by a sharply dressed man in an amazing Rolls Royce down to the award winning Henry Jones hotel on the waterfront for our wedding night. Wink-wink nudge-nudge, say no more.

The room itself was incredible, it had an overflowing spa, a crazy shower, and the food at the restaurant there was indescribably awesome. Actually wait no it was the exact opposite of that. It was so awesome that you couldn't help describing it at great length to anyone around you. Now I know what those food critics were talking about. It was inspirational food like none I had ever tasted and made me realise a world of opulent luxury that I had heretofore never known.

The next day I joined all of my friends from out of town along with those from in town at a party constructed by :iconcarnival: at the Botanical gardens. G spent the day in Richmond with her family. It was great for me to catch up with friends I hadn't seen in ages and who I didn't get a great deal of time to talk to at the wedding.

The next day after that, G's family and I went on a speedboat cruise around the pituresque Brunei Island where we saw seals, fudge factories, rare birds and amazing rock formations that hadn't yet collapsed upon Wile E Cyote.

That night we had one big last party with everyone from the wedding (more or less) and that was awesome too.

The day after that we flew to Sydney and stayed at a cardboard box, I mean hotel, as a stopover on our way to our Fijian honeymoon. After our stay at the Henry Jones, our room at the Formule 1 was.... well it was good we were only there one night. In the middle of that night we were awoken by the sound of a fire alarm. Upon meeting outside in the assembly area, it turns out a SHOWER IN SOMEONE'S ROOM HAD SET OFF THE ALARM BECAUSE THE SHOWER DOOR HADN'T BEEN CLOSED. It turns out that's a thing that can happen in today's society.

The next day we flew to Fiji. I was utterly blown away by the greeness and humidity of it all. It was all so tropical and amazing but G, coming from Queensland, was less impressed. We drove across Fiji to our hotel, and stepping out of the air conditioned car made my glasses fog completely up with condesation from the air. Standing in Fiji is like standing next to a freshly opened dishwasher.

The resort we stayed at first was incredible. It was immaculate and in every way the iconic and ideal tropical paradise. There was a beach with white sand, blue water, coral reefs and endless tropical fish to snorkel at, two pools with swim up bars, five restaurants, incredibly (almost suspiciously) friendly staff and more coctails and coconut trees than you can poke a stick at. A few things we did there were going to an eco park with tonnes of lizards and exotic birds, going on an Island Yacht cruise, scubadiving (where I needed to rig up the diving mask with my prescription goggles inside: see below), snorkelling and going on a jetboat river safari. Aslo we saw fire walking and fire spinning. Also many hermit crabs.

On our second day there, it was my birthday. G had secretly gotten me a birthday cake, but unbeknownst to her, another person in our restaurant called Matt was also having a brithday on that night and their cake came out while we were still having dinner. I was momentarily disappointed when the cake went by me toward some other table, but was later delighted to find that I too would receive a surprise cake! What are the chances? We took the cake back to our room and ate it slowly over the next six days.

After seven days we took a ship out to Amunuca, a resort on a very small island. The water was unbelievably warm and we spent the time in the two amazing pools, the beach, the kayak's, and going on dolphin safari's. Also we had bonfire's, Kava ceremonies and crab races. Our crab didn't win.

After five nights at Amunuca, we went to our last resort, the Sofitel. It was a bit more commercial, but it was nice to get a good coffee again. It also was full of good pools and many coctails. Also I jet ski'd, something I'd always wanted to do. (Not pictured unfortunately)

After two nights there we took a plane back to our barren ass desert of a country and I went back to school today. I'm still kinda sore from the Jet ski driving but it was a fabulous trip. I think I have caught the travel bug now so who knows where we will end up next.

If you made it this far through the journal, vinaka! And now it's time to get back to those commissions I have left for an obscenely long time.
